Re-orientation forum on environmental laws held
By Edmund Sestoso

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently conducted a two-day forum and workshop among different environmental stakeholders in Negros Oriental on new environmental laws, policies, and rules and regulations.

Main speaker at the forum held at El Oriente Beach Resort was lawyer Wilfredo Saraos, chief of DENR's research and legal opinion division.

During the gathering, Saraos pointed out that a sustainable environmental development is an important aspect that needs to be considered for a responsible economic growth.

He said the forum is important to ensure that stakeholders are aware of the latest environmental laws, rules, regulations and policies.

"This can be done not only with the sole effort of the government, all concerned sectors must work together," the DENR official said.

The forum was part of the department's observance in June of World Environment Month.

In Negros Oriental, the campaign was a joint effort of Provincial Office of the DENR, the Provincial Government and Saint Catherine Family Helper Project, Incorporation.

The topics discussed included updates on forestry laws, mines, and geo-sciences laws as well as policies, regulations on land management services, land titling, and land foreclosure management.
