MULTILITERARY awardee Lakambini Sitoy, Manila Times columnist and daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Valentino Sitoy of Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City, won two of the most coveted awards in the annual Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards.
Sitoy bested other Filipino essayists with her entry titled "From the Outlands with Love" and won the second prize in the short story writing category with her entry, "Shut up and Live".
She received a certificate, a cash prize, and a gold medallion for her winning essay.
The two awards bring to eight the number of wins she had since she joined the annual Palanca writing competition, which is now on its 55th year.
In the past, Sitoy has won awards in the short story, story for children and future fiction categories.
This is the third time she has won the first prize of the contest as well as the third time as a second place finisher.
Aside from the Palanca awards, Sitoy is also a winner of a number of local, national, and international writing contests. (Adrian Sedillo)
