Farmers want agrarian officials removed
By Edmund Sestoso

TWO groups of farmer-beneficiaries of the government's agrarian reform program called for the ouster of two municipal agrarian reform officers (Maro) for allegedly being indifferent to their woes and concerns despite several dialogues, sit-ins, and talks.

The two alleged for inefficiency and ineffectiveness are Amlan agrarian officer Wivina Pinero and Tanjay City's Algerico Navarro.

The beneficiaries are farmers from Hosanna Plantation, Inc., in Barangay Jantianon in Amlan town and in Barangay San Miguel in Tanjay City.

The farmers staged last week a rally in front of Plaza Maria Luisa Suites Inn where newly appointed Department of Land Reform (DLR) Secretary Datu Nasser C. Pangandaman was billeted during his visit to Dumaguete City last September 21.

The date coincided with the 33rd anniversary of martial rule in the country that ended in 1986.

Group spokespersons Lianie Torres and Carlito Remata said the rally was aimed at expressing their concerns on agrarian related issues.

Both said Pangandaman met with the officers and personnel of the DLR in Negros Oriental but ignored the farmers.

The Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp) beneficiaries in Amlan scored Maro Pinero for allegedly making arbitrary decisions in the exclusion and inclusion proceedings of the farmer-beneficiaries.

They said that worse, those who were granted the certificates of land ownership awards (CLOA's) were excluded and had not been consulted.

In Tanjay City, the beneficiaries echoed similar sentiments, claiming that Navarro had told the CLOA holders, "Dula-dulaan ko lang mo. Wala pa gani ta katunga sa atong dula. Mag-abot ta bisag asa."
