No Buglasan village for Arnaiz By Maricar Aranas
GOVERNOR George Arnaiz does not welcome the idea of creating a Buglasan village or transferring the festival's agri-fair booths at Governor Mariano Perdices Memorial Coliseum and making them permanent structures.
The idea is similar to what Bacolod City had done when it made permanent the agri-fair booths of different towns.
Arnaiz said the ambience of the Negros Oriental Capitol and those of other cities differs.
He said the Buglasan booths were once placed at the coliseum but many visitors stayed away because of the hot surroundings caused by the absence of trees.
The governor said if the plan had to push through, trees have to be planted to refresh the area for the comfort of visitors and people manning the booths.
Arnaiz explained that the coliseum was the original venue of the festival.
He said for the last four years since Buglasan was held, more people including domestic and foreign tourists had been coming to Negros oriental.
Arnaiz explained that making the booths stay permanent would remove their charm and would be expensive for local government units to maintain.
The governor is also against extending the booths' life to December because of concern that students and other young people would use them as hangout places.
