Ateneo de Manila sweeps nat'l debate competition

ATENEO de Manila University swept the week-long 7th National Debate Championship at Silliman University that ended Thursday, outspeaking their rivals from 27 universities nationwide that participated in the national event held for the first time outside Luzon.

Arnold Garcia of Ateneo de Davao University took the championship crown for public speaking while Sharmila Parmanand and Charisse Borromeo of Ateneo de Manila University emerged champions.

Garcia won a glass trophy while Ateneo de Manila University received a silver cup trophy.

Mark Garcia, Silliman University information officer and coach of the Silliman debate team said that after the national event, the university plans to host an international debate finals.
