De Castro: Palace indifferent to criticisms By Edmund Sestoso
MALACAÑANG remained indifferent to the attacks of its critics particularly the opposition and is continuing its job for the welfare of the people, said Vice President Noli de Castro.
De Castro was in Dumaguete City Thursday to lead the fourth annual People's Day celebration organized by the Sectoral Desk Office of the city government headed by Ehpraim Bejar.
"Maski ano pa ang binabato sa amin, magpapatuloy pa rin po tayo sa pagtatrabaho," de Castro said in his People's Day address to thousands of urban poor, vendors, porters, city hall employees and guests gathered at Quezon Park.
The theme of the celebration was "Pagbag-o sa Politikanhon ug Ekonomikanhon Kahuitang, Yawe sa Kalamabuan sa Katawhang Kabus."
With him on the occasion were Negros Oriental Governor George Arnaiz, Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices, and Vice Mayor William Ablong.
The vice president said President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been giving priority to the programs to alleviate the plight of the poor throughout the country.
Housing particularly was one of the priorities, according to the Vice President.
"Ang concern po ngayon nang ating pamahalaan ay ang mga mahihirap katulad ninyo at para naman maiahon ang atong mga mamamayan sa kahirapan," de Castro said.
Present during his speech were members of the Tempura and Balut Vendors Association, Nagkahiusang Kababayen-an sa Canday-ong, Food Processors of Bajumpandan, Balugo Farmers Association, Nagkahugpong Mananagat Alang sa Pagprotektar sa Boulevard, Association of Porters in Dumaguete City, and the Federation of Dumaguete Motorcab Drivers and Operators Association, among others.
