Energy conservation starts at home: electric coop By Rachel M. Nessia
OFFICIALS of Negros Oriental 2 Rural Electric Cooperative (NORECO 2) urged residents to lessen the use of electricity and to start it at home in the face of the economic crunch.
Dominador Tragico, chief of the transmission and distribution department of NORECO 2, said less use would cut down costs and save on other energy sources like LPG and gasoline.
"While Mother Nature is providing the raw materials, the supply is not really abundant and will not last long," Tragico said.
He said energy conservation must start at home.
"The most effective and efficient energy-saving device is you, or us the consumers," added Tragico.
NORECO 2 issued energy conservation tips to consumers, advising them to turn off unnecessary lights, reduce TV set volume, iron clothes when it is cooler and more comfortable as it lessens demand for electricity on peak hours.
It advised consumers to choose gas ranges or ovens with an automatic ignition system that can save 40 to 50 percent on gas for top burners, use fluorescent lights instead of incandescent bulbs, and to drive vehicles "sensibly."
