Mayor eyes free drinking water program
BAIS City Mayor Hector Villanueva disclosed a plan to build an estimated P1.2 million project that would supply free and safe drinking water to Bais City residents.
Villanueva said this minutes before the start of the signing of an agreement on wastewater management technical assistance between the Philippine Environmental Governance Program and the mayors of the cities of Bais, Tanjay, and Bayawan at Bethel Guest House.
Villanueva said the project would be built in Sitio Tinaan, Barangay Mansangabon and would start initially with one machine to process the free water supply.
He said Bais City Health Officer Dr. Chuchita Villapando has started studying the project.
Likewise, Villapando had also started talking to businessmen in Dumaguete City on the processes involved in producing ozonized water.
The mayor said that once the studies are complete, the project would start early next year.
Villanueva said the idea hit him during the meeting recently in Iloilo City of the Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines, which he heads.
In that meeting, the mayor said, he realized that commercial bottled water is expensive.
Villanueva added he was surprised why people were complaining about fuel price increases but were silent about expensive commercial water.
