Pregnant housewife, son injured in firecracker blast By Neil C. Rio
MABINAY, Negros Oriental -- Exploding triangle firecrackers at an early purok Christmas party Monday night in Barangay Tara injured a six-month pregnant young housewife and her four-year-old son.
Police identified the victims as Riza Abuso, 24, and her son Wilme Abuso II.
Abuso said Tara Barangay captain Minda Balasabas held the early purok Christmas party starting around 8:00 that night.
To start off the party, the revelers lit several big triangle firecrackers locally known as camara, but two of the explosives landed and exploded on Abuso's right breast burning her shoulder and right arm.
The explosion, which injured her arm and burned her hair, also hit her son.
Both were immediately rushed to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.
Doctors assured the child in Riza's womb was not affected by the blast.
