Consumers to 'still enjoy' lower rates By Edmund Sestoso
ELECTRICITY consumers of the two electric cooperatives in Negros Oriental and their counterparts throughout the country might still enjoy a 'not so low rates' in their power bills.
Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) suspended indefinitely its decision on the application of a rate increase dubbed "wheeling rates" by the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo), said ERC public information officer Elmar Agir.
Agir explained the draft determination for TransCo's wheeling rates was still under process at the ERC.
The draft determination embodies the ERC's initial position on TransCo's application and is still subject to public consultations, evidentiary hearings and thorough evaluation," added Agir.
He quoted ERC chairman Rodolfo Albano as saying that the draft determination describes the ERC's initial evaluation that is based on merits of the case on hand.
"There might still be major adjustments upon its final evaluation depending on the documents submitted to the ERC not only by TransCo but by other concerned parties," he said.
Agir said the draft determination was not a final resolution of the application and it was released to afford other stakeholders an opportunity to comment on the ERC's views before a final determination is made.
He said the draft determination would not affect the rates charged by TransCo on its customers.
The ERC has given interested parties until January 20, 2006 to comment on the system.
