Jubilation, merriment to mark Santacruzan
By Jessica Layumas

DUMAGUETE City's 11th Santacruzan Festival on May 18 and 19 this year would be marked by jubilation and merriment at the same time to celebrate the "rich cultural legacy" that it has bestowed on the community, said city tourism council chairman Councilor Manuel Sagarbarria.

Sagarbarria said five screen idols have been invited to join and accompany the parade of sagalas which is one of the main events on May 27 along with streetdancing.

Dr. Rico Absin, tourism council co-chairman and Santacruzan talent coordinator, is currently negotiating the coming of Sam Milby of Pinoy Big Brother, TJ Trinidad, the "Carding' of ABS-CBN's "Gulong ng Palad", John Pratts, Rico Barrera, and Jayson Abalos.

Absin said Pratts, Barrera, and Abalos have confirmed their presence.

The council said that in the wake of the recent Ultra stampede, it is mapping out strategies to ensure the safety and security of the stars during their visit in the city.

Meantime, City Councilor Harrison Gonzales disclosed that seven barangays confirmed they would participate in the festival.

The highlights of the annual event include a food festival at Rizal boulevard and the Search for Dumaguete's Singing Star, May edition.

Dumaguete City's Santacruzan Festival reenacts, through a street parade and showdown, the search of Roman Queen Helena's legendary search for the holy cross and the virtues of the Virgin Mary interpreted through intricately choreographed dances.
