Negros Oriental receives P5M from agri dep't By Maricar Aranas
THE Provincial Government received the P5 million pledged counterpart fund from the regional office of the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the joint Negros Oriental-Negros Occidental Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture Rural Development (Nisard).
The counterpart, awaited by the province since December, was a commitment of DA regional director Eduardo Lecciones for the agriculture development of the two provinces of Negros Island.
Nisard eyes to use the money to establish more Barangay Agricultural Development Centers in the province, demonstration centers at the provincial agriculture headquarters, and to expand the animal dispersal program.
Nisard, a joint project of the two Negros provinces targets to produce organically-grown products.
Early this month, provincial agriculturist Gregorio Paltinca announced that the first batch of some 500 Australian cattle for animal dispersal will arrive in April.
The wastes product of the imported livestock would be converted into organic fertilizer through the vermie composting method.
Negros Island, through Nisard hopes to become Asia's center for organically-produced crops.
