Additional 64 farmers receive land certificates
By Hermie B. Tresquio

VALENCIA, Negros Oriental -- An additional 64 farmers received their Certificates of Land Ownership Awards (Cloa) from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) provincial office.

The farmers received their certificates of ownership at the municipal hall during a brief program attended by Mayor Rodolfo Gonzales, a number of municipal and barangay officials, and representatives from the DAR provincial office led by DAR Assistant Secretary Kashmir Leyretana.

The turnover brings to 484 the number of farmers and 169 hectares the area of public lands awarded to farmers tilling lands that do not belong to them.

Presidential Proclamation No. 1413 awards public lands to the farmers tilling public lands.

Valencia Mayor Rodolfo Gonzalez, Jr., in a brief message during the ceremony, challenged the beneficiaries to make their newly-acquired lands productive and to make sure that they paid their annual real property taxes.

Gonzales thanked DAR for helping the farmers own the land they have been tilling for years.
