Police chief: 'No media blackout' By Jimmy P. Abayon
DUMAGUETE City chief of police Dionardo Carlos cleared Thursday the apprehension of members of the local media over their access to the daily police blotter report.
Carlos met the local media in his office after several members of the media complained that they were denied access to the police book on Wednesday because of "new orders" from him.
"We are not keeping the blotter from you," Carlos said.
He said the status quo has not changed and that the book is open to the media.
"I will not prevent you from reading the blotter," he assured.
Carlos explained all he wanted was to keep track of all reported crime incidents for the past 24 hours by reading the entries from 5:00 to 6:00 in the morning.
He said the system would enable him to assess incidents "worthy" of police action.
Carlos welcomed the meeting, saying the media and police needed to help each other to ensure the peace and order situation in the community.
Before the meeting ended, Carlos gave out his cellphone number to the media to open lines of communication.
