Bicycle, motorcycle crash kills housewife
A 55-year-old housewife died of serious head injuries at Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital, five hours after the bicycle she was driving collided with a motorcycle past 4:00 Sunday afternoon along the national highway in Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City.
The victim is Apolonia Vidad, a native of Mabinay, but living with her family along Sta. Monica road in Banilad, Dumaguete City.
The police report did not identify the two motorists or the extent of their injuries when they lost consciousness after the fatal collision.
Librado, 57, a farmer, and husband of the victim said he and his wife were driving different bicycles to Barangay Junob to visit their married child and on reaching the national highway-Bajumpandan road, he saw two motorcycles approaching.
While crossing the road ahead of the approaching motorcycles, he signaled to his wife who was several meters away behind him to stop and wait for the motorcycles to pass before crossing the road.
Later, seeing the first motorcycle pass and the second motorcycle still at a distance, Librado signaled his wife to cross.
But as she did so, the second motorcycle suddenly appeared and collided with the bicycle, hurtling the housewife and the motorists into the road.
The three victims lost consciousness. Librado asked help from another passing motorcycle and rushed his wife to hospital.
Apolonia died five hours later.
