Guv lifts suspension order v. silica mining
By Victor L. Camion

GOVERNOR George Arnaiz has lifted his order to suspend the silica mining operation in Ayungon town.

Arnaiz said his decision followed the "favorable findings" of the Multi-partite Monitoring Team that has submitted its report dated endorsing the resumption of the operation of Goodyield Resources Development Inc.

The governor's decision is contained in his rder dated March 9, 2006.

Monitoring team was composed of representatives from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Central Visayas, the Environmental Management Bureau in Central Visayas, the local government units of barangays Maaslum and Ayungon town, the non-government organization Ayungon Ministers Association, and representatives from Goodyield Resources Development Inc.

The Mines Rehabilitation Fund Committee, Arnaiz said, adopted the report of the monitoring team.

The resolution was signed among others by, Roger de Dios, chairman; Celso Loriega, Jr., co-chair; and members Mayor Edsel Enardecido of Ayungon, Reverend Fr. Eddie Murillo of NGO, Alan Arranguez of EMB-7, Wilfredo Panabang, and Alfredo San Miguel, Jr., of GRDI.

Arnaiz also directed the personnel of the Environment Natural Resources Management Division of the province to accept the application papers and processing fees of GRDI and to continue their strict monitoring of the project.

Last February 27, the governor suspended the mining firm's operation after receiving complaints from residents of Ayungon, including its barangay and municipal officials against the quarry operation of crystalline sand in Maaslum.
