P100T budget for labor month sought By Victor L. Camion
THE committee on labor and industrial relations has asked the Provincial Board to authorize the office of the governor to allocate at least P100,000 annually to mark the month of May as industrial peace activity month in Negros Oriental.
In his ordinance, committee chairman Board Member Melimore Saycon, proposed to source out the fund from any available source in the provincial treasury.
The measure proposes to declare the month of May as Industrial Peace Activity Month in the province.
The activity, he explained, is a manifestation of solidarity with the labor movement and acknowledges the existing harmonious relation between the capital and labor sectors for higher productivity.
Saycon, national vice-president for Visayas and Mindanao of the Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Worker's Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, stressed that the economic showdown in the country has resulted to several displacements in the labor sector.
He said the uneasiness and apprehensions of the labor sector has triggered a number of labor conflicts between management and labor.
"There is a strong need to maintain peace in both the labor and management front because the problem is not apparent or imaginary but real," said Saycon.
Governor George Arnaiz heads the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, created in the province by virtue of an executive order, issued by the President to implement programs and related activities during the celebration.
