Capitol contributed only 30% of city road concreting costs
By Victor L. Camion

THE Provincial Engineer's Office of Negros Oriental admitted Capitol contributed only 30 percent of the cost of the road concreting projects in Dumaguete City.

Provincial Engineer Elesterio Ruperto said the Provincial Government spent only P30 to P40 million for the projects.

Ruperto said Governor George Arnaiz has made Dumaguete City a priority area because it is the entry point to destinations in the province.

The engineer denied reports that the Provincial Government implemented majority of the road concreting projects in the city.

For his part, Dumaguete City administrator Dominador Dumalag, Jr. said the Provincial Government helped a lot in terms of putting up infrastructure projects.

A number of congressmen and senators and the Philippine Ports Authority contributed at least 10 percent of different city projects.

Dumalag said 60 percent of the city's road projects were funded by the City Government.

He said the City Government allocated P90 million for road concreting from June of 2002 up to this year.

The money came from both the 20 percent development fund of the city's share of the Internal Revenue Allotment and general fund.

"The truth is that when the Governor Arnaiz saw the effort of the city, he also gave his assistance," Dumalag said.
