Motorcycle hits mother, twin daughters; 1 killed By Neil C. Rio
JIMALALUD, Negros Oriental -- A 40-year-old housewife was injured and one of her twins was killed when they were hit by a wayward, speeding, and driverless motorcycle along the provincial road in Barangay North Poblacion Friday afternoon last week.
Police identified the woman as Emma Estosata, a farmer, and the twins as Janet and Jeanet.
Estosata said she and her seven-year-old twins were walking home when a driverless motorcycle came speeding and hitting them.
Police said the motorcycle was registered to Ambrosio Serillo of the same town and was driven by his son, Edmund (name withheld), 17, before the incident.
Edmund told police that he was driving the motorcycle, which was then running on high speed, when it suddenly buckled, forcing him to jump off.
The motorcycle, then without a driver, plunged ahead hitting Estosota and her twins.
The victims were rushed to Governor William Villegas Hospital in Guihulngan but one of the twins, Jeanet died a few minutes later.
The mother was later referred to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumageute City.
The teenager said the vehicle had a problem with its defective accelerator cable.
Investigations found that the boy was driving the motorcycle without a driver's license.
The report did not say if the suspect was charged.
