Canlaon City routs Dauin By Syril G. Repe
CANLAON City slaughtered Dauin, 79-68, to move a notch up in Bracket A with a 3-2 win-loss card in the championship elimination round played Wednesday in the ongoing 2006 Governor's Cup basketball tournament at Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in Capitol area.
Despite center Jave Delfino's impressive 27 points, Dauin could only limp in their attempt to even the score against Canlaon City's aggressive quarter leads and finish only one win ahead of cellar dweller Bindoy which chalked up a dismal 0-4 win-loss card since the elimination round opened May 5.
Delfino tried to rally his team's flagging points 4:38 minutes in the 3rd quarter with a series of three-point shots courtesy of the three-point area.
But his attempts were futile as Canlaon City, District 1 basketball champions after routing Guihulngan, further widened its lead in the last quarter forcing Dauin to bite the dust, trailing 11 points behind their northern rivals in the closing seconds.
Meantime, Dumaguete City continues to dominate the round with a 4-0 win-loss card as against rivals' Sta. Catalina, 3-1, and Canlaon City, 3-2.
Bais City remains fourth in wins and losses.
Quarters: 18-12, 42-25, 58-46, 79-68
