Exec wants guv's barangay milk program institutionalized By Maricar Aranas
PROVINCIAL Board Member Arturo Umbac has filed a measure to institutionalize the Gatasang Barangay Himsog nga Katawhan program of Governor George Arnaiz.
Arnaiz launched the program to help the province's malnourished children and those weighing below standard health requirements.
Umbac believed that once the program was institutionalized all barangays in the province would have milking cows for children.
At present the Provincial Government's milk program gets its supply from Teves Dairy Product.
Umbac said each barangay must have its own cow because the dairy could not supply the milk needs of all the more than 500 barangays throughout the province.
He said provincial veterinarian Dr. Antonio Mutia has also recommended goats and carabaos as sources for milk supply.
Aside from helping reduce the province's malnutrition rate, the program would give additional livelihood to parents because the program was barangay-based.
