Negros Club 64 holds monthly chessfest By Syril G. Repe
NEGROS Club 64, Inc will hold its monthly chessfest for the youth 20-under and 14-under Open Lawn Chess tournament at the Negros Club 64 Lawn Chess park at Capitol Area starting May 27.
Florendo Zamora, tournament director, said Reed and Balansag (R& B) Real Estate Partnership Investment is once again sponsoring the activity that will see young woodpushers pitting their mind battle skills against each other.
Zamora said each participant is given one hour to complete a whole game with additional 10 minutes.
Recording of the game is mandatory and so with the other relevant rules and regulations following the FIDE (International Chess Federation) rules.
A five or seven-round Swiss system tournament format may be applied depending on the number of participants, the tournament director said.
The top 5 finishers of the 20-under will receive cash prizes. The champion gets P1,000, second placer P700, third placer P400, fourth placer P200, and fifth placer P100.
The 14 years old and under will also receive cash prizes: P700 for the champion, P500 for the second placer, P300 for the third placer, P200 for the fourth placer, and P100 for the fifth placer.
The registration pay is P20 per participant to cover score sheet expenses and club maintenance.
