CFC Negros Oriental marks 17th anniversary By Victor L. Camion
THOUSANDS of leaders and members of Couples for Christ (CFC) from all over the province will gather at St. Paul University's Open Hall in Dumaguete City to celebrate its 17th provincial anniversary on May 21.
The celebration starts at 7:30 in the morning with a so-called Tobit's caravan around the major streets of the city.
It will be followed with a mass to be officiated by Rev. Fr. Butch Malana.
Bro. Bobby Mercado, provincial area director of CFC Negros Oriental, will open the activities with a welcome message and Bro. Hermie Vargas, provincial area head of CFC Negros Oriental, with an anniversary message.
The provincial music ministry band will perform during the potluck lunch.
Mercado said the event includes the launching of the pro-life ministry after launch, which will be followed by a pro-life talk by Dumaguete City Vice Mayor and Bro. William Ablong, CFC pro-life coordinator.
The other activities are the launching of Legacy Park, a ceremonial tree plating, and a brief message from representative from the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) on the importance of environment protection.
CFC is a Catholic renewal community that works towards a vision of becoming "Families in the Holy Spirit Renewing the Face of the Earth", according to Mercado.
Mercado said this year's activities will draw inspiration from the life of Tobit, a biblical figure who has shown supreme dedication and commitment to the Lord.
He said CFC's anniversary theme is "Showing His Power and Majesty to a Sinful Nation."
Over the years, CFC has lived up to this vision, Mercado said, through personal renewal, family and societal evangelization, and work with the poor, principally through the various social ministries and the project Gawad Kalinga.
Gawad Kalinga is project to build low cost housing in cooperation with both local and national governments for the poorest of poor families.
CFC started in Manila in 1981 and has since then grown with a total membership of 1.4 million and with active presence in 135 countries.
