Guv criticizes Independence Day street rallies By Maricar Aranas
GOVERNOR George Arnaiz criticized government and political leaders who joined street rallies in Metro Manila during the celebration of the country's 108th Independence Day.
Arnaiz said the leaders should have respected the observance because it signified the country's freedom.
He described the rallyists as communists because their cries were all for the overthrow of the government.
But, the governor said, ever since no militant group had been contented with any of the President of the country.
On the other hand, he said, the Independence Day celebration in Negros Oriental this year was colorful and peaceful unlike those in other cities that were marred by street rallies and protests led by many of the country's political leaders.
Arnaiz said the peaceful observance showed that the people of Negros Oriental were against violence and continue to respect Independence Day although a number of groups and individuals do not like the President.
