Guv urges mayors to attend jathropa meeting By Maricar Aranas
GOVERNOR George Arnaiz encouraged all 25 town and city mayors in Negros Oriental to attend the meeting between the Provincial Government and a non-government organization that will visit the province on June 26 to promote the jathropa, locally known as tuba tuba, industry.
Arnaiz failed to mention the name of the non-government organization, only saying that it will compose of 18 to 19 members.
They will visit the province to study its potential for jathropa farming, he said.
The governor said the group is expected to offer livelihood opportunities to non-government organizations and local officials.
Arnaiz said he is not sure what would happen with the visit but that he was positive it would benefit the people, especially on the agricultural aspect.
The Department of Energy plans to develop the jatropha industry as an alternative source for oil in the face of the fluctuation of oil fuel prices in the country.
