Movie houses lose P50T due to Da Vinci ban By Maricar Aranas
THE city's only three existing movie houses sacrificed P50,000 in earnings when it acceded to the request of Mayor Agustin Perdices and complied with a City Council resolution against showing the controversial film "The Da Vinci Code."
Mayor Agustin Perdices confirmed this after he received a reply from the movie house owners agreeing to his request not to show the film.
Right after the mayor wrote the owners, the City Council passed in their regular session two days after a resolution banning the film in the city's theaters.
Perdices described the film as "offensive attack" on the divinity of Jesus Christ.
The mayor said that initially he was indifferent to the controversy and that he changed his mind after receiving negative reports about the film from others who have seen it.
He said his stand strengthened after hearing the homily during the first Friday mass at City Hall that challenged Christians to emulate the Muslims who are willing to fight to protect their religion.
Perdices said a lot of people may disagree with his decision, but that he believed many more support it.
