Catarata Memorial Cup tournament set

PARTICIPATING barangays are all set for the 2006 Councilor Boni Catarata Memorial Cup Inter-barangay Basketball tournament scheduled next month at the City Hall quadrangle.
Joe Quirit, city sports officer, said the tournament schedule was agreed on at a meeting with officials of the Association of Barangay Councils recently.
Quirit said many barangays have already confirmed their participation.
He said last year 25 of the city's 30 barangays joined the tournament that was won by the cagers from Barangay Piapi.
Quirit said at all games would be held at the City Hall quadrangle except, but when it rains they would have to transfer the tournament at the Dumaguete City gymnasium in Barangay Calindagan
The tournament is sponsored by Globe Telecom, the City of Dumaguete, and the Catarata family.
Quirit said the regular holding of basketball tournaments and other sports activities aimed to keep the youth busy and move them away from vices, particularly illegal drugs use.
