Environment dep't casual workers may lose jobs By Maricar Aranas
ALL 46 casual workers of the Provincial Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Negros Oriental may lose their jobs once the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in the region pushes through with the plan to close a number of its offices in the region.
Charlie Fabre, head of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office 2, said only one of the five environment offices of the agency would remain under the rationalization plan of the regional office of the DENR.
Fabre said his office could be one of those that would be closed along with other community environment offices in the region.
He said the rationalization plan targets to trim down DENR's work force from 155 to 115.
Most of the casual workers of the provincial office have been in service for 10 years.
Fabre said the department has offered an early retirement package for the retrenched employees.
The plan, he said, would be implemented once the Department of Budget and Management gives the go signal.
