Church group holds sportsfest By Syril G. Repe
THE Dumaguete Philippines Institute of Religion (DPIR) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) along Pinili Street in Barangay Tinago will hold a sports tournament next month.
Archer Allusada, DPIR student president, said the sportsfest aims to encourage young people studying in different secondary schools and colleges in the city to while away their time with productive and healthy activities.
Allusada said the church is involved in developing both the youths' spiritual and physical well beings.
The games will include basketball, volleyball, chess, and table tennis among others and will be played only on days when there are no classes.
LDS organized DPIR to meet the needs of young men and women aging 12 to 17 years and single adults aging 18 to 30 years who are church members to improve their learning on the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Allusada added that DPIR lined-up many activities this year to prevent them from going astray and bring them nearer to the church.
Director Roberto Yu heads DPIR.
