Mayor defends city police By Maricar Aranas
MAYOR Agustin Perdices said the city's Philippine National Police (PNP) must not be solely blamed for all problems related to peace and order enforcement in Dumaguete City.
Perdices came to the defense of his police force following observations raised during the recent City Competitiveness Workshop of the Asian Institute of Management, Asia Foundation, and the United States Assistance for International Development in Silliman University.
The mayor clarified that all sectors in the community also have an obligation to help the police maintain the city's peace and order condition.
Perdices however said that the police must work hard to restore the community's trust and confidence.
At the two-day workshop that ended last August 17, Perdices clarified that Dumaguete City has put in place various programs from poverty alleviation to health concerns.
AIM-Asia Foundation agreed to give technical help to implement its programs and other proposals recommend at the workshop.
Perdices said all programs would succeed if a partnership exists between the private sector and the City Government.
