Zambo public market fails evaluation of trade dep't By Syril G. Repe
THE provincial selection team of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the province gave a failing grade to the Zamboanguita public market Wednesday during its evaluation for the provincial 2006 search of the Pambansang Pamilihan project.
The selection team was composed of DTI and representatives from consumer groups, the provincial offices of the Department of Interior and Local Government and Departemt of Agriculture, Kiwanis-Buglas and the media, which were represented by Sun.Star Dumaguete and ABS-CBN.
During the inspection, the team found that the market did not comply with the law on the use of price tags. There were also no timbangan ng bayan, price board on exhibit, consumer welfare desk, clean market surroundings, and water supply inside the comfort room.
Before the Zamboanguita visit, the team gave a passing grade to the public markets of Siaton, Dauin, and Valencia.
The team assessed that the local government units of the three towns are supportive of their market's operation and regularly informed the vendors of their responsibility to consumers.
The team concluded its month-long evaluation for the provincial winner with a visit to the public and private markets in Bayawan City, Sta. Catalina, and Basay Friday.
On September 21, the provincial team will meet at the DTI office in Dumaguete City for the final evaluation and judging of the top three best private or public markets in the province.
The winners will receive certificates of recognition and a banner and will qualify to the regional search.
