Tejada: Gems of thoughts By Evelyn G. Tejada
NO MAN is an island. No man stands alone. He needs someone to share his thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Normally, he needs friends. One way to have friends is to be a friend. You can do things that you would want a friend to do for you. If you want your friends to share anything with you, then share with them.
Do you feel good when a friend says something nice to you? You can make and keep friends if you are a friend.

Dealing with strangers. People who you do not know may sometimes be a danger to you. We call these people strangers.
Always inform your parents, teachers, or other adult if a stranger tries to give you something.
Sometimes strangers call on the telephone. How should you talk to a stranger who calls? You should not answer any question.

The world we live in. No living thing exists alone. Perhaps you have heard a statement like this before. Surely there must be many forms of life around us that we have not seen. There are also non-living factors in the environment.
Exploring our environment will help us understand the world we live in. Through scientific technology, we can appreciate the wonders of nature. And for all we know, the world is a better place to live in.

The rainforest. Haven't you wondered what a rainforest is? How it came about? Millions of years ago, before the advent of the ice ages, the earth basked in never-ending summer. On its lands lay mantles almost to the poles beneath a forest cover of eternal green. Unlike the needled evergreen temperate woods today, those ancient trees bore broad leaves and bright exotic blooms. The forest unfurled magnificently in the equator. It still stands today, reduced in area but still revealing the splendor and luxuriance it has won for untold eons. This is the true forest primeval, the rainforest.
Evelyn G. Tejada is principal of the Dumaguete Science Elementary School at the compound of the West City Elementary School.
