Police identified the slain man as Moises Calunsag, a resident of Guba.

The police report said Calunsag broke into the house of Joey Medina around 5:30 that Monday morning and stole an M16 rifle, a magazine long plastic, 30 pieces of M16 bullets, and a gun sling.

Authorities said that minutes after the robbery, a joint team from the Sta. Catalina police led by Inspector Leopoldo Ijan and the 705th Provincial Mobile Group of the Philippine National Police led by SPO4 Deoclesio Burlaos launched a manhunt after receiving a complaint.

It said the team cornered Calunsag in Guba and Burlaos shouted to the suspect to lay down the armalite rifle he stole.

Instead of heeding the order, the suspect allegedly fired at his pursuers resulting to a shootout between him and the police.

Calunsag was hit on the armpit and died instantly.

The team recovered the stolen M16 rifle and ten shells.
