1 more 'police character' slain
By Syril G. Repe

ONE more "police character" was killed after unidentified men on board a motorcycle gunned him down at the foot of Tinago bridge in Barangay Calindagan last Thursday night.

Police identified the fifth victim in the series of slayings in the City of Gentle People this month as Alvin Aguilar, 33, single, of Purok Mutya, and whose body bore seven gunshot wounds from a 9mm pistol.

Two witnesses, Leslie Dalagan, the victim's live-in partner, and Arnold Tanilon, told police that before the incident they were drinking at the foot of the bridge past 9 p.m.

Both said that while they were drinking, a motorcycle with two riders arrived, stopped near them, and the back rider opened fire at Aguilar several times.

After seeing their quarry down, the riders escaped across the Canday-ong area. A few meters from the crime scene, the motorcycle stopped and one of the riders fired on the air two more shots then left. Aguilar was rushed to Holy Child Hospital but he was dead by then.

Neighbors said the victim was an alleged drug pusher and had just been released from jail.

In a related development, the next night, two armed men on board a motorcycle shot a 26-year-old woman in Zone-4, Barangay Looc.

Police identified the victim as Michelle Camaren, of Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

Police said Camaren was having drinks with her friends when the motorcycle-riding men appeared and fired, hitting her on the chest.

She was rushed to hospital for treatment and was recuperating. The police are investigating to find out if the shooting was linked to illegal drug activities.
