American dies in sex act
By Syril G. Repe

POLICE continue to investigate the cause of death of a 51-year-old American national who died while having sex with a 16-year-old girl near midnight Monday.

Police identified the victim as Michael Douglas Phillips, of 611 North Osciola Avenue in Clearwater, Florida, US and temporarily residing along Macias road, Barangay Sac-sac, Bacong.

PO3 Jonathan Vailoces, desk investigator of the Dumaguete City police station, said that based on the statements of the 16-year-old girl of Barangay Looc and her 16-year-old male pimp of Barangay Piapi (both names withheld), they and Phillips entered a hotel along Perdices Street past 10 p.m.

He said that after negotiations, the American gave P2,000 to the pimp allegedly to redeem a pawned cellphone and another P500 to buy shabu and three bottles of beer.

Inside the room, minutes after the order arrived, the 16-year-old girl said Phillips sniffed one sachet but she refused to take one when the foreigner offered it to her.

Later, after taking a shower, she returned to the room and saw the American had finished a bottle of beer.

Moments later, Phillips switched off the light and started fondling her but suddenly he stopped while his head was on her stomach.

The girl said she thought the American had fallen asleep, but when she switched on the light, she was horrified to see the man's flesh turning reddish and bluish.

Alarmed she rushed out of the room and asked help from a security guard who then called the police.

Responding policemen rushed Phillips to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital where the attending doctor declared him dead-on-arrival.

PO3 Vailoces said friends of the American whom the police contacted have already informed his family and relatives in the US. From the hospital, the body was transferred to the Eterna Funeral Parlor.

Investigators recovered three bottles of beer, a pair of eyeglasses, a lighter, a nail cutter, tin foil, a t-shirt, a pair of short pants, and a small plastic pack containing what is believed to be shabu inside a Nokia cellphone.

In an exclusive interview with Sun.Star, the girl said she was from one of the towns north of the province and that her parents could afford to send her to school.

But, she said, she did not want to go study and had preferred to travel and find work in Dumaguete City.

In the city, she said, some of her friends encouraged her to work as a "pay girl".

For the last three months as a "pay girl", the teenager said she was happy but that her customers were mostly local men.

Last Monday night, she said, she had the chance to meet a foreigner but he died while they were having sex.

"Ganahan man ko ani nga trabaho, kay malipay man usab ko ug dali ang kuwarta, kay kon mo-iskuwela ko kapoy man, bisan talagsa ra ko customer ok ra," the 16-year-old girl said.
