College opens 250 slots for Arroyo scholarship

A TOTAL of 250 slots for the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Scholarship program are now available at Asian College of Science and Technology (ACSAT) in Dumaguete City for anyone interested to be a trained call center agent or medical transcriptionist.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) is in charge of distributing these scholarships to recognized institutions.
But in Dumaguete City, only ACSAT is recognized for the PGMA Call Center Finishing Course and the PGMA Medical Transcription Finishing Course.
Arroyo's scholarship program is geared towards giving Filipinos wider opportunities to be employed in a call center or a medical transcription industry.
The PGMA Finishing Courses are designed to increase the chances of applicants to be hired in a call center or medical transcription company, according to Tesda Provincial Director Samuel Jordan.
This is in cooperation with the BPO companies such as TeleTech and Keystrokes Transcription Philippines, Inc. (KTPI), which will be hiring the graduates of the PGMA Call Center Finishing Course and the PGMA Medical Transcription Finishing Course.
TeleTech is the only call center in Dumaguete City while the KTPI is the only Medical Transcription Company in Dumaguete City recognized by the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines (MTIAPI) and American Association of Medical Transcriptionists (AAMT).
KTPI is located at ACSAT Campus, Dumaguete City.
Both companies are currently in need of call center agents as well as medical transcriptionists as soon as possible.
Slots are very limited, and applicants from Dumaguete City are encouraged to avail of these scholarships as soon as possible.
In order to qualify for the Call Center Finishing Course, Rene Sol Calumpang, ACSAT school director, said applicants should proceed to Tesda immediately and take the preliminary evaluation and look for Miss Geraldine de los Reyes.
Calumpang, however, clarified that applicant must be at least a high school graduate or preferably have attended two years of college.
Scholars will receive a free training and P10,000 scholarship voucher, she said.
For the Medical Transcription Finishing Course, on the other hand, interested applicants may call KTPI at ACSAT at telephone number 225-4459 or visit at KTPI Office, 3rd Floor, ACSAT building to apply for the scholarship.
