Thursday, October 12, 2006 Buglasan opens, tight security enforced
NEGROS Oriental's annual Buglasan Festival of Festivals will open this week with the opening of participating city and municipal and corporate booths, garden show, and songwriting contest amid tight security to protect visitors from snatchers, pickpockets and other criminals that may take advantage of the occasion.
Governor George Arnaiz assured tight security for the October 13 to 29 festivities in a recent meeting with members of the local media.
As part of the measure, Arnaiz said he has asked mayors of participating contingents to deploy at least one of their policemen to monitor activities in their booths to protect visitors.
The governor said the presence of a uniformed policeman would help deter criminals.
He said augmentation teams from the provincial command and city and municipal police stations would be around to monitor the capitol area, the scene of the festivities.
Meanwhile, the volunteers group Special Police Assistance Group (SPAG) led by Sati Dolino will also be deploying its members to help police monitor the area.
The city police have accredited the group to help monitor and report any incident affecting peace and order conditions. (SGR)
