Thursday, October 12, 2006 Vets mark WW2 Jap Imperial Army surrender
MORE than a hundred World War 2 veterans and their families converged in Guinsuan, Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental recently to mark the annual observance of the surrender of the Japanese Imperial Army occupying force in the province at the last days of the war.
One of the biggest delegations was that from the Tanjay City Veterans Federation of the Philippines Sons & Daughters chapter.
It was a day for the WW2 Filipino heroes to reminisce about their struggles for freedom more than 60 years ago in the hills and mountains of Negros Oriental that culminated with the surrender of the remaining, ragtag Japanese army to the United States Armed Force of the Far East (USAFFE) by the bank of Guinsuan river in Zamboanguita on September 22, 1945.
