Trade dep't to public: Be vigilant By Victor L. Camion

DTI Provincial Director Javier Fortunato Jr. urged the public to report to their office any overpricing.

He is confident, however, that businessmen here are not abusive to consumers.
As of Wednesday, Fortunato assured that prices of basic commodities are stable.
He explained that the DTI has not monitored any sudden increase in prices of basic commodities.
Prices of chicken, however, increased by P2 per kilo while prices of sugar also decreased.
Chicken, he said, increased its price due to high demand.
He explained that the demand for chicken has been increasing while the supply is decreasing.
Sugar, on the other hand, increased in supply because it is the milling season.
Imported goods
Fortunato also remind consumers to take extra care in buying imported goods, especially electrical and electronic goods.
He advised that in buying imported goods, buyers should see to it that the good is marked with Import Commodity Clearance (ICC).
"Even those locally made products should have the PS (product standard) mark," said Fortunato.
He stressed that despite the close monitoring of their staff, some goods were overlooked.
Fortunato said goods with PS or ICC mark passed the DTI standard process and is safe for use.
