During the press conference this week, Mayor Perdices clarified the City Hall belongs to the people of Dumaguete and that he has no right to bar anyone who wishes to visit it.
Perdices made the clarification after he filed a civil case against Generoso for allegedly maligning his name as mayor on the May 20 issue of the local paper, "The Negros Chronicle." The case was filed at the Municipal Circuit Trial Court Friday.
The mayor filed the case against Generoso after the latter reportedly accused the mayor of taking the victory from his opponent Arturo Umbac in the May 14 elections.
In the press conference, Mayor Perdices also promised not to interfere if Generoso decides to organize any activity or association in the city, as long as it will benefit the public and it does not contain any hidden motives.
He also stressed the case he filed is not to discourage the media from publishing criticisms against the government but only to correct Generoso's serious accusations against a public official.
If found guilty, Generoso will be asked to pay P150,000 as moral damages, which the mayor said he will donate to the feeding program of the Cathedral and the Redemptorist Parish Church.(MOA)
