Friday, August 10, 2007 Guv orders possible production of anti-rabies vaccines By Edmund Sestoso
GOVERNOR Emilio Macias II ordered provincial health and veterinary officials to look for possible means of having the province acquire its own machine to produce anti-rabies vaccines.
The order came after several people from the different towns visited the governor’s office requesting vaccines for anti-rabies.
Capitol staff Adrian Sedillo said for the month of July until the early part of August, almost 40 patients had approached the governor’s office asking for medical assistance particularly on the purchase of both Vero Rub and Veri Rub.
The two medicine vaccines normally cost at around P7,000 to P8,000 per vial.
“Kung magsige na, mahubas atong pundo sa medical assistance gumikan sa kamahal kaayo sa mga tambal aning anti-rabies (If this will continue funds for medical assistance will be used up immediately because of the expensive vaccines),” Sedillo quoted Macias as saying.
The Capitol staff said health and veterinary officials had assured the governor that they had already identified a supplier for the machine to produce such vaccines.
The governor said with the procurement of the machine, other constituents will also be serviced by the medical assistance.
Governor Macias who is a medical doctor by profession has also reiterated his call to the local government units to strengthen their enforcement and ordinances on the safekeeping of dogs and laws on stray dogs should also be properly implemented.
