Friday, August 10, 2007 Remollo: Reconciliation eyed on Maquiling-Dumalag rift By Edmund Sestoso
SOME members of the Dumaguete City Council are working towards reconciliation in the ongoing rift between Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling and City Administrator Dominador “Diony” Dumalag, said Councilor Antonio Remollo.
Remollo, an opposition councilor, chairs the committee on good governance and public ethics.
The rift between the two City Hall officials started when Maquiling in a privilege speech manifested his surprise by the move of Dumalag transferring several personnel from the vice mayor’s office to the mayor’s office without proper consultation.
Dumalag in a separate media interview explained he was only ordered by Mayor Agustin Perdices to effect the transfer of personnel.
The vice mayor went even on saying that Dumalag’s family was also able to corner most of the projects at City Hall.
The family of Dumalag owns the Dumalag Concrete Products.
Remollo said those eyeing the reconciliation are the members of his committee when they held some consultations on how to resolve the conflict.
Maquiling and Remollo belong to the opposition camp having run under the Genuine Opposition in the last electoral exercise.
Remollo’s committee is presently handling the issue and finding ways to resolve them.
The opposition councilor said it was Councilors Esperidion Catan and Rotelio Lumjod, both committee members, who prodded the possible reconciliation between the two officials.
Opposition Councilor Nilo Sayson expressed his support to the move of Catan for reconciliation between the two.
Remollo said as Christians, reconciliation is possible as long as “forgiveness” will be obtained after accepting the mistake that have been done.
