ALARMED by the possible health effects of the dreaded bird flu, several members of the Provincial Board of Negros Oriental pushed for the institutionalization of the campaign against the entry of the dreaded bird flu in the province.
According to the board members, the proposed ordinance is for the purpose of preventing and controlling avian influenza outbreak in the province.
It is also aimed at ensuring public safety and protecting the health and general welfare of the residents.
They also said the same protects the health of the local poultry industry thus contributing to financial stability of the local businessmen.
Avian Influenza, also popularly known as bird flu, is an infectious disease from chickens, ducks, game fowls, native chickens, geese, turkeys, hobby birds, or birds of any kind.
The proposed ordinance has also provided for the creation of the Bird Flu Task Force which will be headed by the governor and assisted by the vice governor who is also the vice chairman of the task force.
Among the members includes the provincial police director, PPA port manager, customs collector, and head of the league of municipalities.
The task force is allowed to conduct inspections in areas such a poultry farms to ensure compliance with the ordinance.
