Wednesday, September 19, 2007 Arnaiz appointed House local gov't committee chair
DESPITE his being a first timer in the House of Representatives, 2nd District Representative George Arnaiz was able to get the trust and confidence of Speaker Jose De Venecia.
Former governor and now congressman Arnaiz said he was elated when de Venecia entrusted to him the chairmanship of the local government committee.
Arnaiz said he also wants to push for an amendment of the existing Local Government Code of 1991, particularly on the distribution of the Internal Revenue Allotment.
The local government committee's previous chair was also then 2nd district congressman and now Governor Emilio Macias.
Arnaiz also said that under his chairmanship of the local government committee, he hopes to address some of the complaints of the local officials particularly on the delay of the releases of funds from the national government.
The post is timely with Arnaiz recently being awarded Most Outstanding Governor of the Philippines. Senator Aquilino Pimentel Jr. handed a plaque to Arnaiz in fitting ceremonies.
Arnaiz said he would try to use some of his experiences and the lessons he learned in the past years when he was the governor of the province.
Arnaiz said that under his chairmanship, he hopes to alleviate the conditions of local governance throughout the country. (Edmund B. Sestoso)
