Thursday, September 20, 2007 Bayawan City to showcase people’s health scheme to Cebu By Edmund B. Sestoso
THE Bayawan City Government will host the Lakbay Aral program and showcase “People’s Health,” a scheme instituted for several years already, this coming Sunday with the local officials of Cebu province.
Bayawan City Councilor Mark Fidencio Aurelia, also chairperson of the council committee on health and tourism, said this Lakbay Aral is a follow-up of an earlier visit by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to Dumaguete City in strengthening cooperation ties between the two provinces.
Pioneered by Dr. Fidencio Aurelia, the councilor’s father and chief of the Metropolitan Integrated Health Zone, the project is part of the Integrated Local Health Zone initiative that will concentrate on the health aspect directed towards the “Health in the Hands of the People” and the establishment of PESO for Health, a community-based health insurance for the people.
The Integrated Local Health Zone started in Bayawan City and other neighboring towns of Sta. Catalina and Basay.
Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II will tour Governor Garcia with Cebu provincial officials and local mayors to the facilities of the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.
Councilor Aurelia meanwhile hopes the visit will bring about linkages and benefits to the constituents of the city.
