Wednesday, October 03, 2007 Buglasan activity 'scrapped'; budget realigned By Edmund B. Sestoso
ONE of the major activities in the annual Buglasan Festival of Festivals was scrapped and its budget was realigned to other projects of the Negros Oriental Provincial Government.
Governor Emilio Macias II requested the Provincial Development Council, through its executive committee, to realign the funds intended for the Rodeo and Horseshow Competition -- one of the major activities of the yearly Buglasan Festival of Festivals.
The Buglasan activities are celebrated every October starting from the term of then governor George Arnaiz, now a congressman of the province's second district.
All other Buglasan activities are now moved to December from the usual October season.
The 2007 Rodeo and Horseshow Competition was allocated a budget of P725,000. Recently, Governor Macias sought the intervention of the Provincial Development Council in realigning an amount of some P1.2 million pesos for various projects.
Since the allotted budget for the Rodeo and Horse Show Competition is short of the governor's request, the project to establish the Ecological Sanitation Facilities was cut to accommodate the governor's request.
Macias said the realigned funds will be used for the establishment of the Sidlakang Negros Village, asphalting of the parking lot at the Capitol grounds, and for the development of the tourist attraction Lake Balanan.
