A TOTAL of 91,000 bags of Vietnam Rice arrived in Negros Oriental in three shipments to augment the existing rice supply of the National Food Authority (NFA).
Records from NFA show that the first volume shipment of 20,000 rice bags arrived on October 7, followed by 30,000 bags on October 20, and 41,000 bags on October 29.
NFA said the 91,000 rice bags reached more than four million kilos.
NFA Information Officer Rolando Lazalita said the province's rice allocation for 2007 is at 390,000 bags.
"Kulang na lang 39,000 bags para makumpleto ang atong allocation this year," (We are short of 39,000 bags to complete this year's allocation) said Lazalita.
Lazalita said NFA expects the shipment of additional rice bags anytime soon.
He assured though that the rice supply in Negros Oriental is sufficient to meet the province's consumption needs.
Local NFA Provincial Economist Cheryl Marie Echiverri disclosed that the daily rice consumption in Negros Oriental is at 4,680 bags while the daily corn consumption is at 4,850 bags.
Echiverri said the figures are based on the records submitted by the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics.
