A NEWLY elected barangay councilor of Barangay Looc was shot dead while on his way to Barangay Batinguel past 10 p.m.
Nelson Merced, 56, married, of Barangay Looc and now residing at Barangay Batinguel, sustained multiple gun shot wounds in the different parts of his body.
PO2 Roger Salve of the Dumaguete PNP command incidentally passed by the crime scene and saw the victim lying beside his motorcycle.
The police officer with the help of the bystander rushed the victim to the Holy Child Hospital for medical treatment but after several minutes the victim died.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was riding his motorcycle going home. Upon reaching Purok-1 lower Batinguel, two unidentified men onboard a motorcycle overtook and fired at him several times.
The police recovered from the crime scene three empty shells of caliber .45 pistol, two slug of caliber .45.
The police are currently investigating on the motive behind the killing.
