GOVERNOR Emilio Macias II has reminded local chief executives throughout Negros Oriental to strictly implement their ordinances and other local laws regarding stray dogs.

The governor’s order came as he observed a lot of stray dogs in his travels and visits throughout the province.

Macias once summoned Capitol veterinarian, Dr. Antonio Mutia, for updates on the campaign of the agency regarding stray dogs.

Mutia said he had already informed town and city veterinarians about laws on stray dogs.

The governor instructed that this has to be addressed immediately in order to prevent and reduce cases of individuals bitten by rabid dogs.

Records from the veterinary office disclosed that most of the cases of rabies were due to the proliferation of stray dogs.

Macias said that in eliminating the stray dogs, local government units must also be cautioned on the existing laws under the Animal Welfare Act.
