Rape victim dies at hospital

A 13-YEAR-old girl died at the hospital from a stab wound inflicted by a neighbor who attempted to rape her, her grieving mother said.

The mother, interviewed at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital two days after the alleged attempted rape occurred, had refused to divulge details of the incident when her daughter was first brought to the hospital.

This time, though, the mother was ready to reveal what happened to her daughter, a minor, who was stabbed with a bolo last November 29 in Jimalalud town.

According to the mother, someone had attempted to rape her daughter before stabbing her when she resisted and tried to run away.

Before her daughter died, she was able to reveal the name of her assailant, added the mother.

She identified her daughter's alleged assailant as Milyboy Huradas, 28 years old, married, and a resident of Barangay Tamao in Jimalalud town.

Police investigations revealed the victim was walking on her way home to Barangay Eli when Huradas allegedly grabbed, choked, and brought her to an isolated, grassy area.

The victim shouted for help and managed to run a short distance before the suspect caught up with her and stabbed her with a bolo.

Neighbors immediately informed police authorities and brought the victim to the Gov. William Villegas Memorial Hospital in Guihulngan town. She was later transferred to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.

Police authorities, as of this writing, are still looking for the suspect who remains at large. (EBS)
